With key workers and employees still in the office, it is vital that they are kept as safe and protected as possible in the workplace. RB Health and Safety Solutions are providing resources to help improve workplace health and safety by offering COVID antigen testing for offices
COVID Testing Kits
The test used by our nurses are the SARS-COV2 Rapid Antigen Tests, a rapid type of test used to detect specific antigens present in the human nasopharynx. These tests are designed to identify a particular nucleoprotein carried by the virus, and current infection whilst the virus is present in large quantities in the respiratory tract and are vital as an aid to not only protect employees but help reduce any potential asymptomatic spread of the virus.
How the screening process works
There are certain steps to follow in order to undergo the screening process, which will be carried out by a healthcare professional in offices. When the COVID antigen tests are booked, one of our nurses will be sent to your office premises, bringing the testing kits with them. You can expect the test to take around 15 to 20 minutes to produce results.
This screening process is a simple to follow six step process, from which the following will occur:
- A highly qualified healthcare professional will conduct the screening test sent to your offices. Before starting, check that you do not have any coronavirus symptoms and you will be asked to supply to confirm your identity.
- A brief medical history will be taken. You will need to tell the nurse if you have had any recent trauma or surgery. If you also suffer from epistaxis (nose bleeds) or have a deviated septum, nasal swab testing will not be suitable, and another type of test will have to be arranged.
- You will have to sign a consent form before the screening process is able to commence. During this time, the nurse will ask which nostril you prefer to be swabbed.
- The swab will then be inserted into your nostril until it reaches the surface of the posterior nasopharynx. The swab will then be rotated and carefully removed. Some discomfort may be felt as part of this process and this part will only take a few seconds.
- Extraction buffer solution is then mixed with the swab, with 3 drops then being applied to the testing device to determine a positive or negative result.
- You will have to wait 15-20 minutes for a positive or negative test result to be given, and your health care professional will explain the results to you.
Understanding the results
If you receive a positive result from the test, you will be required to self-isolate as per government guidelines. The healthcare professional taking your test will be able to direct you to the most up-to-date information. .
